Co-Learning Update

In winter 2012-2013, the MSU EDA University Center for Regional Economic Innovation (REI) sponsored a call for co-learning plans on the economic development issues facing our regions and the strategies, tools, models, policies and programs we may need to solve them. We received 18 proposals in response. As we had hoped, we heard from established Michigan leaders in the field as well as many new voices. We heard from economic developers, university professors, civic leaders, entrepreneurs, community development organizations, architects, workforce development firms, and many others all working to improve the economy of Michigan.

Each proposal was reviewed by a panel of experts from the REI Network, and eight were selected. The panel looked for co-learning plan proposals that covered a broad range of topics, were forward thinking, and presented new ideas.

We hope that with each annual call for proposals, REI's Network will identify the most difficult issues Michigan is facing and will recruit the most innovative thinkers to find solutions. Both in 2012 and in 2013 we believe that we have achieved that goal, and we thank the many authors who took the time to submit proposals. We will begin to work with our selected 2013 authors this spring and summer and we invite you to read co-learning plans from last year while you wait for this year's projects to be completed. We encourage you to share the co-learning plans with others and continue the conversation in your community, region, or organization.
