Creating Jobs and Wealth in Distressed Michigan Communities
Student-Led, Faculty-Guided Technical Assistance
Student-Led, Faculty-Guided projects provide assistance to Michigan communities in completing local and regional economic development initiatives. Work is completed by students at colleges and universities throughout the state, under the supervision of experienced faculty. Benefitting both students and local communities, these projects enable students to gain firsthand practical experience in the application of previously studied theory, and they empower economic development professionals to receive technical assistance that might not otherwise be available. Projects typically include data collection, analysis, and the development of plans and implementation strategies.
Technical Assistance selection is a competitive process. REI typically funds five semester-long projects each year, with support ranging from $500-$2,500 per project. Students are expected to write a report, conduct a webinar, and present at the annual Innovate Michigan! Summit.
