Kara Wood is the Economic Development Director for the City of Grand Rapids. She interacts with and guides community business leaders in the positive advancement of the city's economic growth, and assists developers in implementing a wide variety of programs and initiatives that focus on developing and fostering public-private partnerships to accelerate job retention and creation, neighborhood revitalization and innovation and entrepreneurship. She is an alumni of Michigan State University's Eli Broad College of Business, Western Michigan University's School of Public Affairs and Administration and serves on a variety of personal and professional boards and associations such as the Michigan Magnet Fund Board of Directors, Michigan Economic Developers Association Board, Michigan Accelerator Fund 1 Board of Directors and the Michigan Municipal League Land Use and Economic Development Committee.
