REI has supported four projects that studied makerspaces in communities across Michigan, and recently published a video highlighting makerspaces in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Jackson, Lansing, and Northville.

Makerspaces provide a location that can be used by nearly anyone to create nearly anything. These spaces also frequently serve as resource hubs for start-up ventures like the BLVD Harambee Bike Shop.
